Athlone house/ Full Architectural Service Studio
This new dwelling, recently granted planning permission, was designed for a compact infill site where maximising space while respecting context was key. Despite the site’s limitations, we successfully delivered on the client’s brief for a traditional-style home with generous light-filled living spaces and strong architectural character.
The design breaks up the building’s mass by separating it into two distinct blocks — a single-storey element to the front and a two-storey block to the rear — linked by a central corridor. This approach reduces visual bulk and enhances the dwelling’s fit within its surroundings. A central brick-fronted porch creates a strong focal point and anchors the composition, adding warmth and presence to the street elevation.
Traditional features such as vertically proportioned sash windows, parapets, and carefully detailed window surrounds reinforce the classic aesthetic. By staggering the two building blocks, a sheltered, south-facing patio was created — offering both sunlight and privacy — and extending the living areas into the garden.
