Black House/ Full Architectural Service Studio
This striking new build is set within a lush, mature landscape and blends traditional Irish forms with a bold, contemporary material palette. The design is arranged around a central L-shaped plan that creates a sheltered south-west facing patio, maximising natural light and privacy for outdoor living. A white-rendered gabled volume with natural stone cladding grounds the house in its rural context, while a dark timber-clad two-storey wing adds contrast and vertical emphasis to the composition.
Generous glazing wraps around the corner of the living spaces, framing garden views and flooding the interior with daylight. Internally, the open-plan layout is centred around the stone-clad chimney, anchoring the space both physically and visually. The exterior is carefully articulated with sharp eaves lines, recessed reveals, and a zinc canopy that lends a refined modern finish.
Sustainable materials and high-performance glazing were prioritised in the build, while the plan ensures passive solar gain and strong indoor-outdoor connections. The result is a family home that is both rooted in place and architecturally ambitious—simple, elegant, and highly liveable
