Country Farmhouse Extension/ Full Architectural Service Studio

This once-derelict farmhouse in rural Kildare has been sensitively restored and extended to blend history with modern living. A young family, with one member as the project engineer, took on the challenge of reviving this home while preserving its architectural integrity.

Structurally, the stone walls remained sound, but the roof required full replacement. The restoration focused on conserving key elements—original timber windows, doors, and intricate cornices—while introducing contemporary design solutions.

Completed in January 2019

A modern extension was carefully designed to respect the farmhouse’s prominence. Stepped back from the original structure, its ground floor is clad in natural timber, complementing the rural setting, while the upper level features a sleek black Equitone finish, creating a refined contrast.

Inside, exposed stone walls add warmth and texture, reinforcing the connection between old and new.

Large windows frame key views of mature trees, while a cantilevered window seat enhances the indoor-outdoor relationship. Original architectural details, including the staircase and timber beams, were restored, preserving the home’s historic charm.
